Millions of executives, operators and technicians begin their work day by opening their CMMS or EAM system. More of them will open IBM Maximo® than any other EAM solution on the market. Why? Because they know that IBM Maximo can be trusted to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the assets that drive their businesses. Not only do our users recognize the superiority of the IBM Maximo asset management solution, I am very proud to announce that the IDC MarketScape has recognized our platform as a leader in the cloud-enabled, asset-intensive EAM applications.
IDC MarketScape positions IBM a worldwide Leader for SaaS and Cloud-Enabled Asset-Intensive EAM Applications
The recent report, IDC MarketScape: SaaS and Cloud-Enabled Asset-Intensive EAM Applications1, indicated that innovation played an important role in the assessments of 11 prominent EAM providers. I believe that no organization is more committed to innovation than we are. In 2018, we were awarded a record 9,100 patents2, more than any other organization in the world. Additionally, we spent an impressive $5.38 billion on R&D3. We are proud of our continuing investments in the technology, resources and embedded knowledge that drive the Maximo platform.
The IDC MarketScape report also recognized the specific industry solutions that have made IBM Maximo the choice for many of the world’s most asset-intensive organizations. As they indicated, “In addition to meeting the requirements for manufacturing and facilities with core Maximo, IBM has developed specific industry solutions, which are all available as SaaS offerings, for key asset-intensive industries: utilities, oil and gas, nuclear power, transportation, aviation, and life sciences.”4
IBM continues to invest in Maximo
The IDC MarketScape also noted IBM’s ability to support and strengthen the Maximo application that has served our customers well for over 30 years. Here is an excerpt from the report:
- Size/access to resources: One of IBM Maximo’s most important benefits is that it is a part of an $80 billion company, which gives IBM Maximo product management access to innovative technologies from within IBM for cloud, cognitive, analytics, and mobile.
- Brand/industry experience: IBM Maximo has been at the forefront of EAM software for nearly three decades. As a result, IBM has developed a large and fervent client base that it can tap into for product development. Over the years, IBM has collected a large ecosystem of EAM business partners that have deep industry/domain expertise.5
IBM has invested in this critical platform for the past ten years, and we continue to do so. In 2015, we combined Maximo and other key capabilities to create the Watson IoT Business unit. Additionally, in the last few years, we have expanded and hardened those capabilities to fully support our industry clients – on the cloud and in-house.
IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short-term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the icons.
IBM is a leader in strategies and capabilities
IDC MarketScape positions vendors on two axes: capabilities and strategies. Several criteria influence both positionings. The strength of the strategy and the value of the capabilities each respectively drive half of the placement.
In terms of strategic strength, the IDC MarketScape recognized that IBM helps clients understand how IBM Maximo and the IoT can help extend and transform their businesses and business models. The IDC MarketScape indicated that IBM provides pragmatic offerings that use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real-world industrial challenges in the asset management arena.
The IDC MarketScape suggested that organizations in asset-intensive industries consider IBM for their EAM solution. “You are likely looking for an EAM system with deep functionality and from a company with deep experience in the industry.”6
Whatever industry you are in, IBM is that company.
EAM is as important as your assets
Industrial businesses continue to digitally transform their enterprises. Their decision makers realize that the foundation of successful transformation is the intersection of multiple technologies. Enterprise grade clouds and IoT platforms have become critical as organizations expand their operational technology (OT). They now stretch beyond core hardware to include workflows and process specific applications. Nowhere has this become more apparent than in the asset-intensive realms. CMMS and EAM systems are relied upon each day to connect the dots of various components with legacy software. These solutions protect and ensure optimized performance for billions of dollars in assets. So they must operate in utmost security, and more and more often in concert.
This is where IBM cloud helps you elevate, and migrate, your applications with features that support and complement the Maximo solution, including:
- High availability using a modern Devops approach
- Extensibility to bring apps, AI
- Multi-tenant, dedicated and hybrid options
Whether you’re interested in SaaS, MaaS, PaaS, Dedicated or Hybrid, IBM Maximo includes the benefits of a powerful AI engine, Watson, and offers multiple methods to deliver our award-winning capabilities to your users. Our powerful Cloud Platform is ideally suited to your organization’s specific requirements, regardless of your size or the industry in which you conduct business.
