The Odinub Is an IoT Development SBC Designed Around Octavo Systems’ OSD3358 SiP

Open source hardware startup Odinub is set to release an IoT development board under the same name later this month. According to Odinub, it will be “a power-packed computer that will redefine the computing industry as we know it. With a vision to miniaturize the board’s size, while getting more done, the technology aims to empower today’s youth by providing effective IoT and digital solutions that make them more connected to the world.”

The choice of SiP is an interesting one, as it sports a 32-bit 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, with 512Mb of DDR3L RAM, 4Gb of eMMC, a TPS65217C power management IC, TL5209 LDO, and over 140 passive components into a single 400-ball BGA package. As for additional features, the board offers a 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11.b/g/n/ac wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2(BLE), along with a pair of USB 2.0 ports, 2X UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and 12-bit SAR ADC.

The Odinub SBC packs a 30-pin GPIO header with four analog input pins, and 5V/3.3V/1.8V output pins, for a variety of power options. There’s also an HDMI port, microSD card slot, SGX 3D Graphics engine, reset, power, and SD boot buttons, and accepts 5V (@2.5A) DC via a micro USB connector.

The company states the board will come pre-loaded with Debian, although you can use most Linux flavors, and Android will be supported in the future. There’s no launch date or price point for the Odinub as of yet, only that it will become available mid-June.
