SoC for garden IoT system

Hello,

I would like to build IoT system for my garden, I would like to get data about weather and soil, and controlling of my watering system in garden.

I have electric valve for my watering pipes TORO EZ-Flo Plus 1, but I don’t know if I can control it using GPIO in SoC.

I’m thinking about these SoCs:

  • RASPBERRY Pi 3 Model B+
  • ODROID-C2
  • Or something other?

I would like to have SoC with Linux operating system, because I would buy Touchscreen for it and have it as “terminal” with PIXEL or Lxde or Xfce desktop environment.

The most important for me is stability, I want SoC which will not freeze, crash etc..

So I wonder if someone has experiences with these SoCs mentioned above.

For SoC I want to buy:

  • Case which is big enough for Touchscreen.
  • Touchscreen (around 7″)
  • Sensors for:
  1. Temperature
  2. Humidity
  3. Barometer
  4. Rain
